Women in Football Database

We've named our Women in Football database Trixie's List. Why?

It's named after Trixie Tagg, the first woman coach of the Matildas for just four games in 1981.

Trixie was born in the Netherlands and is a pioneer of women's football in Australia. According to the Encyclopedia of Matildas, she began playing with St George in 1968 and she was selected for NSW state teams throughout the 1970s. She took the reins of the Matildas for a tour of New Zealand in 1981 when the regular coach was not available, winning all four matches. The 1981 touring party to New Zealand remains the only all-woman senior national team party to tour overseas.
